Big O notation is a way of describing how the performance of a computer program, or an algorithm, changes depending on the amount of data it has to work with. In other words Big O describes the way an algorithms scales. Building materials book rangwala pdf. This is known as complexity. These videos describe various Big O complexities and how they can be derived. These include Linear, Constant, Quadratic, Logarithmic and Logarithmic.
Worst and best case time complexity is covered along with space complexity. Examples include stacks, queues, binary search bubble sort, quick sort and merge sort. You don't need to be a mathematician to get this! This series of videos explains the binary number system which is fundamental to the operation of a digital computer.
It begins with the fundamental principles behind encoding positive whole numbers in binary, including how to convert between binary and base ten (denary). It goes on to explain how negative numbers are represented using two's complement or sign and magnitude. For more advanced learners, the series covers floating point representation of real numbers including normalisation and arithmetic.
The series also described the ASCII and Unicode character sets. This playlist includes a sequence of videos about Boolean Algebra.
It follows on from videos in the Logic Gates playlist, particularly the derivation of Boolean expressions from combinational logic gate diagrams. The laws of laws of Boolean algebra are covered, including their derivation from logic gate diagrams and truth tables, and comparison with well known base 10 algebraic concepts. These laws include identity, idempotent, complement, double negation, associative, commutative and distributive. DeMorgan's Theorem is also included. Application of the laws of Boolean algebra to simplify complex Boolean expressions is then demonstrated by example. The videos in this playlist also relate to those in the Karnaugh Maps playlist.
